Our project addresses the displacement of low-income residents in urban areas experiencing rapid gentrification by proposing the creation of affordable housing units designed to foster a sense of community, belonging, and safety. Each apartment is designed to emulate the feeling of a true home, allowing residents the freedom to decorate and personalize their living spaces. By implementing policies to protect tenant rights, and incorporating green building features, such as solar panels, we aim to mitigate the effects of gentrification while sustaining the cultural identity of the neighborhood. Additionally, our project integrates commercial spaces below the apartments, including a café and a grocery store, with space for other stores as well, providing employment opportunities and fostering a self-sustaining community environment where residents can thrive both professionally and personally. Presented is the communal area residents may use on ground floor to foster community and reduce the negative cultural effects of gentrification.
